The Controversy over Computer Art: Timeline and Essay Summary

Computer art is surrounded with controversy involving the idea that its ability to be mass produced and its contrast to traditional art makes it something you may want to buy commercially but not add to your fine art collection.   However, these artists, just as any other artist in other medias, create an idea and produce it originally with their own hands.  This controversy has been seen before with photography which when first proposed was not considered fine art because of its use of a machine. Computer art should be shown credit as fine art, however in its beginning stages it is necessary to look at it on a piece by piece basis and not judged solely on its use of a computer.
